Noticing something unusual in your caribou harvest?
The BQCMB has been receiving photos from hunters showing parasites or unfamiliar findings in caribou. If you see something that looks different or you’re not sure what it is — please take these steps:
Take pictures – Wildlife staff or your local Elder/knowledge-holder may be able to identify parasites or other anomalies through photos. If they cannot address your concerns after reviewing photos, they may ask you to bring in a sample of the tissue for further inspection and testing.
Take a sample – Please remove the tissue of concern.
Where to send samples:
  • Nunavut: Drop off at any local Wildlife Office or contact Mitch Campbell at MCampbell1@gov.nu.ca
  • NWT: Submit to your local ECC Wildlife Office or email WildlifeVeterinarian@gov.nt.ca
  • SK: drop off with Stony Rapids conservation officers or call Matthew at 1 (306) 930-8015. Or contact ADNLC at 306-953-7287.
  • MB: Contact your regional conservation officer service district office, or Joanie Kennah at joanie.kennah@gov.mb.ca.
Thank you to all the hunters who are sharing what they see on the land — your knowledge is invaluable.

Your observations help us better understand the health of caribou across the range.
