Albert Thorassie

Albert was a member of the BQCMB for over three decades and served as Chair for many years. He loved his Denesuline culture, language, and the land and was a voice for the caribou. Albert passed away in December 2022.

Joe Marten, Alternate Member

Joe Marten was an alternate member of the BQCMB since 2014 and he rarely missed a meeting. He was a passionate board member who was dedicated to caribou conservation. Joe passed away in September 2023.

Tim Trottier represented the Government of Saskatchewan on the BQCMB since its inception in 1983. Upon his retirement in February 2020, he was the board’s longest-serving member.

Ross Thompson

Ross attended his first BQCMB meeting in 1983 and served in several roles over the years, including member for the Government of Manitoba, Vice-Chair, and Chair. Upon his retirement in 2022, Ross was the BQCMB’s Executive Director.

Daryll Hedman

Daryll Hedman represented the Government of Manitoba on the BQCMB for 18 years. He retired in March, 2020.

Gunther Abrahamson

Gunther was one of the architects of the BQCMB and his early efforts are part of the reason this co-management board has existed since 1982. Gunther passed away in 2016, but his memory lives on in those who knew him and in the scholarship that bears his name, the Gunther Abrahamson Caribou Research and Management Award.
